Is the Cash Fund really free to create and use?

Yes, The Knot Cash Fund is free for couples to create and use. The Knot doesn’t take a percentage of cash gifts, so couples receive 100% of the wedding gift amount. With The Knot’s zero fee option, if guests contribute using Venmo, they will not pay a fee when using their Venmo balance, linked bank account, or linked debit card.  If guests use The Knot’s direct credit card or banking card option a standard 2.5% processing fee applies to each contribution because credit card companies or banking entities require this fee to process online payments safely. Guests pay this fee at checkout when they contribute to your Cash Fund, and it is not charged or retained by The Knot.

Who pays the credit card processing fee for The Knot Cash Fund contributions?

Guests pay for the standard 2.5%  processing fee only when they contribute to The Knot Cash Fund via credit card or banking card. After guests select an amount to send a couple, they go through the online purchase process, where they pay both the monetary gift amount and the 2.5% processing fee. This fee is typically less expensive than the taxes and shipping costs associated with purchasing a physical gift. The full monetary gift amount is still delivered to the couple.

Why is there a 2.5% fee if The Knot Cash Fund is free?

If using a direct credit card or banking card, there is a 2.5% processing fee because credit card companies or banking entities require a fee to securely process online payments. Guests who prefer not to pay a processing fee can choose Venmo as The Knot’s Cash Fund zero-fee payment option and contribute using their Venmo balance, linked bank account, or linked debit card.

Why does it look like money is being taken from my cash gift on The Knot Cash Fund?

The monetary gift amount is separate from the processing fee. Guests pay for the gift amount and the 2.5%  processing fee when  using a credit card or banking card, similar to how they would pay for an item and the applicable taxes and shipping if they purchased a physical gift from your registry on The Knot. Couples will receive 100% of the gift amount directly in their bank account as long as their bank details have been added to their registry settings to activate the fund.
